#MENDOWEEN (25th Birthday + Halloween festivities)

Okay, I promise promise promise this is the last of the #MEND_______ hashtags. I’m a quarter of a century years old now. Need to stop being so damn vain.

But for posterity, I’d like to post a little sum’n sum’n about this past weekend. Only because it was so freaking epic. Even now, I’m JUST beginning to wrap my head around what went down…

So this past Saturday (October 31, 2015), Mendi turned 25!!!

*WOOT WOOT COMMENCE QUARTER LIFE CRISIS*

I felt a little cold coming on the night before (uh oh), so I went to bed around 9:30PM. I know, grandma-status. But must. be. healthy. for. party.

Welp, I woke up in the morning to this (my friends are crazy).

I had a jampacked day to get through on Saturday, starting with a little Halloween Haunted House shindig at the Buddhist temple.

But of course, being Halloween, we HAD to dress up.

EH? EH? SEE THE RESEMBLANCE?

The Haunted House, let me just say, was scary as F——–!!!!! Omg, I literally ran out of there crying… Props to everyone who made it happen! THEY LITERALLY BUILT A FOREST IN THE TEMPLE (Real trees, yo!!!)

LIKE WTF? NO.

JUST NO, GUYS.

Then right after Haunted house, it was time to get whisked off to San Francisco…

For the birthday festivities, I got a room at the Intercontinental in Soma. Highly recommend this hotel; I’ve gotten rooms here a couple of times, and each time it’s been AMAZING. No noise complaints (trust me, we probably deserved multiple throughout the day) and incredible service.

So what activity was worthy of my 25th birthday, you ask?

Well, Vanessa mentioned her friend once rented out a mobile Cable Car in SF and drove around the city……..

… UH DO YOU KNOW ME AT ALL?

THIS HAD MY NAME WRITTEN ALL OVER IT.

ESPECIALLY being on Halloween while everyone was roaming the streets in full costume.

For added epicosity, I decided to make our Cable Car themed. To be easy, I chose Despicable Me. The minion costume is SO EASY  (yellow shirt, blue jeans, BAM you’re a minion.) Vanessa (bless her heart) also purchased minion eye/goggle hats for EVERYONE. She’s a true sugamama.

Oh yeah, I also made the conscious decision… to wear a $10 banana costume. It was a limp banana.

Who needs a slutty Halloween costume when you can be a limp banana, amiright???

In any case, I can safely say this is legitimately one of the most fun I’ve EVER HAD on Halloween (uh, not just because I was inebriated, but actually because the experience itself was so incredibly unreal and epic.)

People on the streets were snapping videos and photos of us because we were causing such mayhem, throwing candy at strangers and dancing/hanging out of the cable car/yelling and/or singing at the top of our lungs.

HOOLIGANS – but I wouldn’t change a thing. 🙂

I had to (read: was forced) make a short speech at the pregame. This birthday celebration was actually a really emotional one for me: (1) Because I rarely EVER celebrate my birthday – this was the first time I did something completely separate since I was, like, 5 years old; and (2) Because I had invited friends from my childhood (e.g. middle school) AND my coworkers. This was the first time my two worlds melded. And everyone got along so well. It literally made my heart swell and I couldn’t contain my joy. You’ll see later -_-.

Our first order of business was to drive to the Golden Gate Bridge for photos.

PRETTY FREAKING EPIC, IF YOU ASK ME. I love these guys – every single one of them made this birthday my best one yet.

I told you I was super emotional even before the Cable Car, right? Well I (drunkenly) bursted out into full on ugly-face-joyful-tears talking to my friend Kristin on the Cable Car, telling her I loved her.

Here’s me trying to put on a smile (but failing). Hot mess…

Oh but then I bounced back to normal Mendi real quick:

There are so many other photos that I can’t share publicly (because they involve ratchet ridiculous drunk Mendi), but seriously… this was the best birthday ever. AND I WASN’T EVEN HUNGOVER THE NEXT DAY. Probably due to the fact that I didn’t even make it out of the hotel after the Cable Car.

BY CHOICE, THOUGH. NOT BECAUSE I PASSED OUT. IT WAS BY CHOICE.

There’s a difference. I have some dignity left in me.

But yes, my heart was so full and warm on Saturday, which is why I decided to share this experience on my blog. Even if no one else reads this, I want to read back on it when I’m older and reminisce.

My sister created an AMAZING short video that pretty much sums up the entire experience:

While there are many many hilarious stories people had to recount for me the morning after (for instance, I asked my GUY friend to be a bridesmaid at my future wedding… uh wut. It’s okay he agreed.), this one is one of my favorites:

There are probably 45+ photos in my sister’s phone similar to the below. These are my friends Irwin & Michelle (they’re boyfriend/girlfriend).

There is also a video on my sister’s phone where I rant for 45 seconds… saying how I want to marry both of them in awful Chinglish. Like both of them. At the same time. A threesome wedding. “I WANT TO GEN NI MEN MARRY. BAI TUO BAI TUO BAI TUO BAI TUO.  WO XIANG YAO GEN NI MEN MARRY.”

I think I scarred Michelle for life.

Like I said many times already. Epic.
