Years ago, I stumbled upon a quote:
“I always wonder why birds choose to stay in the same place when they can fly anywhere on the earth, then I ask myself the same question.”
… and thereafter, I caught the wanderlust bug.
They say the young are restless. Well, guilty as charged. The only thing helping me retain my sanity nowadays is the prospect of discovery. Of new places, new people, new things.
So far, I’ve traveled to 55 countries outside of the United States and 26 states within; stepped foot on all seven continents of the world, but I’m not stopping there.
I’m a techie (loosely defined) working in the San Francisco Bay Area. Engineering background. Zero blogging experience. Not a writer. You get the point. But I hope to share my traveling experiences and lessons learned with those who will listen or read.
(Additionally, this blog serves as a way for my friends and family to know I’m alive while I’m on the road. So practical!)
World, I’m ready for you.
With love,
Hi Youssef,
Thanks for your wonderful comment!
In terms of how I financially support myself: I’m a full-time tech-worker in Silicon Valley. Your question is valid, though 🙂 many of my close friends even wonder how I travel so frequently. The truth is, you can absolutely see the world… as long as you prioritize this. Travel is one of my biggest life priorities as it brings me immense indescribable joy; so any free time I have I devote to seeing the world.
In terms of budget, there are plenty of ways to travel that won’t break the bank. One good tool is G Adventures, a site where you can cater your trips to a specific budget you have. Of course, hostels are also a good way to not only save a few bucks, but to meet people. Admittedly, I consider myself very lucky, since I make a reasonably good salary, AND I live in my parents’ home – so I save lots of money on rent (especially being in California). That said, I definitely have trouble saving money – since I pretty much spend it all traveling. But like I said before, travel is a priority for me – so I’m more than content with the decisions I’ve made.
I hope this helps! 🙂
